Most women experience abnormal uterine bleeding (Also known as Menorrhagia) at least once during their reproductive years. The most common times that women experience heavy menstrual periods are during the first few years of menstruation during adolescence and during the final two to three years of menstruating before menopause.

There are several treatment options for abnormal bleeding, depending on the cause of your bleeding, your age and whether you want to get pregnant in the future. They include endometrial ablation, hormone therapy (Hormone replacement therapy or HRT, BHRT), dilation and curettage (D&C), and hysterectomy. Hysterectomy usually is the last option.
